Forty years. Thousands of stories. And a story that is still being written.
In 1987, Nicholas Wylde opened the doors to his first jewellery shop in Bath. What began with one workshop, one vision and a belief in creating jewellery with meaning has grown into something far greater than could have been imagined.
As we look towards 40 years of Wylde Jewellers in 2027, we are beginning a year of celebration. Not simply of four decades in business, but of the people, pieces and stories that have shaped them.
From engagements and weddings to anniversaries, heirlooms and new beginnings, jewellery has a remarkable way of becoming part of our lives. Pieces created decades ago have returned to our workshops to begin another chapter. Clients have become generations of clients. And ideas once sketched on paper have gone on to become treasured parts of family histories.
Our 40th anniversary is an opportunity to honour that story. But it is also about everything still to come.
Over the months ahead, we will be sharing more from the Wylde archives, revisiting defining moments from our past, celebrating the craftsmanship at the heart of our business and unveiling new creations and experiences for the future.
To begin, there could be no better place than with the man who started it all.
A letter from our founder, Nicholas Wylde:
To the Wylde Family,
In 1987, I opened the doors to my first shop in Bath. I could never have known then quite how many stories would begin there.
Over the last forty years, I’ve had the privilege of creating jewellery for some of the most important moments in people’s lives. Engagements. Weddings. Anniversaries. New beginnings. Pieces made to celebrate someone, remember someone or simply to mark a moment worth holding onto.
And, somewhere along the way, those pieces began to have stories of their own.
I’ve seen jewellery I made decades ago return to our workshops to be restored, remodelled or passed on to another generation. I’ve met children and grandchildren of clients I first knew many years before. I’ve watched sketches become pieces of jewellery, and pieces of jewellery become part of families.
That, for me, is what these forty years represent.
Not simply the passing of time, but thousands of stories intertwined with our own.
Of course, Wylde has changed enormously since 1987. Our team has grown. Our workshops have evolved. New techniques, new ideas and new designs have become part of what we do. We even launched our very own diamond cut, the Wylde Flower Diamond®. Yet the heart of the business remains much the same: imagination, craftsmanship and the belief that jewellery should mean something.
This anniversary isn’t about looking back.
It’s about the pieces still waiting to be imagined. Jewellery that’s set to become tomorrow’s heirlooms. New celebrations, new generations and tales we are yet to tell.
Forty years ago, I began one story. Since then, you’ve helped us write thousands more.
And I rather like the thought that we’ve only just begun.
