Top Story: The Queen of the Wylde is crowned, heading up our ‘30 Years of Jewels’ celebrations!

Our search to find the ‘Queen of the Wylde’ came to a close recently as Nicholas and a team of four staff members selected the winner from the final shortlist of six. We received a wonderful cross-section of entries in the search and found a very worthy winner.

The Queen of the Wylde can now be announced as Isabella Alexander, a Bath-based business-woman and mother who will be the jewellery model for our new brochure to be launched next month in September (our actual 30th anniversary birthday month).

We’ll be following the Queen’s journey through video and photos during the shoot so watch out for those updates on our website and social media channels. Special thanks to Neill and Jo at Spirit Photographic and also Harriet for fabulous make-up and hair styling during the session.

The Queen will be treated to a hotel overnight stay in Bath, a choice of a piece of Nicholas Wylde jewellery worth £500 and a personal photo shoot with prints.

Nicholas says: “A big thank you to all who entered this exciting promotion. I’m very much looking forward to working with our chosen Queen of the Wylde to create fabulous images promoting our unique jewellery”.

The stunning studio images of the Queen wearing our jewellery will be seen in our brand new brochure showing all our collections (and exciting new ones!) to be launched in September.

This coincides with special in store promotions including a fabulous, one-off event offer designed as a special ‘thank you’ to all our clients. From September 1st, we’ll be offering 100 items in our Bath store and another 100 items in our Bristol store at an amazing 30% off discount!

These pieces have been especially selected by Nicholas and cover a wide cross-section of pieces – engagement, eternity and dress rings, pearls and gifts and will be offered at this amazing reduction throughout the whole month of September. You won’t want to miss out on this rare offer – the last time we did something similar was for our 25th anniversary when we offered a 25% discount.

We have other exciting promotions planned for our birthday celebratory month, including a chance to see the unique jewelled treasures from our summer Treasure Hunt in our stores and a ‘secret week’ you certainly won’t want to miss out on!

More details coming soon as our anniversary ‘year of surprises’ continues...

Over in Bristol: A golden word in your shell-like....
A sea urchin "pansy shell" pendant consisting of a 18ct white gold shell design and an original shell in its found habitat

When we say we can make anything for a client here at Nicholas Wylde, we truly mean that and love it when unusual commissions come into our workshop.

Such was the case for one client who wanted something taken directly from nature and a reminder of a memorable holiday turned into something a little more durable for the future.

The client brought in a ‘pansy shell’ for us to recreate in 18ct white gold. A Pansy Shell is the remains of a sea urchin which live and burrow just beneath the sand in both shallow and deeper waters and found in warmer climates on the planet. Covered in velvet-textured ‘spines ‘and fine ‘hairs’, they feed on crustacean larvae and algae. The classic bone-white shell found by beachcombers is once the spines and hairs have fallen off and the skeleton has been bleached white by the sun.

In South Africa these are known as Pansy Shells but in other parts of the world, relatives of the Pansy are known as the Sand Dollar, Sea Cookie and Snapper Biscuit and the shell has attained mythical proportions with wonderful tales of its origins, including the lost coins of Atlantis.

Many beachcombers worldwide have their eyes open for such shells but it’s VERY doubtful you’ll find one in solid 18ct gold! Unless, of course, the shell is given the ‘Wylde Effect’!
The 400th Wylde Flower Diamond ® is here: ‘It even sparkles on a dull day’

It was our delight recently to welcome newly-engaged couple Ross and Jenny into the Wylde Flower Diamond ® family when they commissioned an engagement ring replete with the 400th Wylde Flower Diamond ®.

Such celebratory gem numbers are in high demand as word spreads about the very special sparkle the diamond has.

Nicholas himself owns the very first Wylde Flower Diamond ® created, his wife owns the 100th, and the 200th and 300th were commissioned by very happy clients.

In fact, the 500th and 1,000th numbers of the gemstone are already advance ordered; such is the demand for the celebratory numbers! You could be the proud owner of the 600th Wylde Flower Diamond ® if you order swiftly.

Jenny commented: ‘The ring is so special and the diamond is so bright it even sparkles on a dull day’.

We wish the couple all the very best for their future together!

Summer love: Wedding Season is here!

The summer months are the top choice for weddings and that makes us very busy also here at Nicholas Wylde creating stunning wedding bands - and more - for the happy couples.

We’re proud of having one of the largest selection of wedding rings in Bath and Bristol and our dedicated wedding lounge is always ready to greet clients with friendly, knowledgeable staff and a complimentary glass of bubbly!

You can watch a 360 video of our wedding lounge here.

Here’s just a selection of some of our recent Wylde stories of ‘summer lovin’!
Wedding Story 1: ‘Going above & beyond’
It’s always nice for us to make a couple happy by providing them with exactly what they desire.

One couple recently wanted wedding bands created from silver and found that some jewellers were not so keen on taking on the commission.

Not so at Nicholas Wylde, where we took their request seriously and created two gorgeous silver wedding rings for them for their wedding in July.

“Thank you very much to Nicholas Wylde for going above and beyond to find our dream wedding bands. We were looking for something a little different and after searching many jewelleries and having lots of doors closed to us, we were very lucky to walk into Nicholas Wylde in Bath.

Biagio took on the challenge and delivered exactly what we were after, exquisite black, contemporary and really cool wedding bands!

We can’t thank you enough and would highly recommend Biagio and the whole team!!! We can’t wait to show and wear them -  Jhampoll & Veronica”
Silver Oxidized wedding band and Silver Oxidized stone set wedding ring with white and black diamonds
Wedding Story 2: ‘Small touches count so much’
A diamond solitaire ring consisting of a Wylde Flower Diamond® in a platinum 4-claw setting within a "w" style collet and mounted on a platinum shank with diamonds grain set into the shoulders.
Being part of a couples’ special day is a wonderful element of the work we do here at Nicholas Wylde and it’s always nice to receive great feedback from those that have received the ‘Wylde Effect’, especially those we’ve welcomed into the Wylde Flower Diamond ® family.

Mr Laney wrote to us: ‘Back in November 2016 my now wife and I visited the Nicholas Wylde branch in Clifton, Bristol to seek some advice on choosing an engagement ring.

From the first moment we were introduced to Shetal we were impressed by his knowledge of the options available to us, as well as the amazing customer service we received. Shetal helped us navigate the choices we had to make and became a trusted advisor through the whole process.

Sometimes it is the small touches that count for so much - like remembering Kim's birthday and when we visited the shop around that date the team presented her with a most wonderful bunch of flowers.

We ended up buying both the engagement ring and our wedding rings from Shetal and the team in Clifton and we can only give them a five star rating for everything they did throughout the whole process - it is sadly only too rare these days to find somewhere that backs up top quality jewellery with such excellent service.

We would recommend the Nicholas Wylde team in Clifton to anyone who values the same things as we do - thank you to everyone involved for the excellent service.”
Wedding Story 3: Speedy gold bangle just in time for wedding
At Nicholas Wylde, we not only create stunning jewellery pieces but are also able to turn around some commissions quickly to accommodate time frames – due to our on-site workshops.

Such was the case for Helen, who wanted a gold bangle to complement her wedding ring and needed it within 24 hours due to impending wedding date!

Helen wrote to us: “I just wanted to say a huge thank you for your assistance – the gold bangle that your goldsmith made is perfect. The service I received from you and your colleagues was excellent. I really appreciated the fact that you were able to make a bespoke item at such short notice; it turned out better than I could have hoped to find anywhere else. I really enjoyed wearing it on my wedding day, and received lots of compliments on how lovely it was.”
Star of the Month: Deep blue tanzanite & diamond dress ring

This deeply-coloured tanzanite and diamond dress ring is our ‘Star of the Month’ for August.

An 18ct white gold dress ring with a central trillion cut claw set tanzanite that weighs 6.64ct and one shoulder with four brilliant cut diamonds that weigh 0.40ct in total and assessed as clarity VS, colour G/H. Its total weight is 13.6 grams.

Our August ‘Star of the Month’ is currently proudly on display in our Bath shop window.

Contact our Bath shop on 01225 462826 if you’d like to give our ‘Star’ a new loving home and for more details view on our website here where you’ll also see a 360 video of the ring.

August Birthstones: Peridot & Sardonyx
18ct yellow gold, peridot single stone necklace.

For those of you born in the summer month of August, there are two gemstones to mark your month -  peridot and sardonyx.

Peridot is one of a few gemstones that exist in only one colour, a distinctive lime green that sometimes finds the gem mistaken for emeralds.

It’s named after the French word peritot, meaning gold, because the mineral can vary towards this colour. Peridot has a very long written history. Ancient papyri record the mining of these stones as early as 1500 BC.

In Ancient times, peridot stones were used for carved talismans and peridot is sill the National gem of Egypt. Ancient Egyptians knew it as “the gem of the sun.”

Sardonyx is a relatively common and inexpensive gemstone. It was a favourite in ancient times, popular not only because it was attractive, but also because it was widely available.

Roman soldiers wore sardonyx talismans (objects bearing a sign of astrological influence to guard from evil and bring good fortune) engraved with heroes such as Hercules or Mars, god of war. They believed that the stone would make the wearer as brave as the figure carved on it.

Find out more about all precious gems in our ‘Wylde Guide to Gemstones’.
