Queen of the Wylde: Winner revealed soon!

Our search to find the ‘Queen of the Wylde’ came to a close at the end of June and Nicholas and his team of three staff members are now making a short-list selection of six from all entrants. We received a wonderful cross-section of entries in the search to find the model to wear our jewellery in a photo-shoot for our new brochure.

The selected winning Queen will be treated to a bed and breakfast overnight stay in Bath, a choice of a piece of Nicholas Wylde jewellery worth £500 and a personal photo shoot with prints.

The final short-list of six entrants will be invited to submit a second photo – striking a pose and wearing their own favourite piece of jewellery – before the overall winner will be chosen.

Nicholas says: “A big thank you to all who entered this exciting promotion. I’m very much looking forward to working with the chosen Queen of the Wylde to create fabulous images promoting our unique jewellery”.

Watch out for the winner announcement very soon - through our social media, website and in the next edition of our newsletter.

Finger crossed! : Top industry news site announces Awards Finalists

We are super-delighted to be announced as a Finalist in the Professional Jeweller Awards 2017 in the Designer-maker Jewellery Boutique of the Year category.

Finalists in this category are designer-makers showcasing their pieces within their own boutique and it's a great accolade to be in the running for such a prestigious award.

The shortlist was chosen by the editorial team following a process where everyone in the industry had the opportunity to vote for the jewellery companies that had excited them most over the last 12 months.

Professional Jeweller is the UK's leading jewellery business magazine and website and we have fingers crossed for a win when they are announced this coming September!

Over in Bath: Our new window display brings the party to the street!

We’ve redesigned our Bath store window to reflect our 30th Anniversary, our amazing Wylde Treasure Hunt and our unique Wylde Flower Diamond ®.

Nicholas’ sister, Corrinda, is our award-winning window designer and her inspired creativity has ensured that our window displays are always vibrant, colourful and eye-catching.

This season is no exception displaying festive balloons taking centre-stage with suspended discs beneath them, all with a different message to impart.

We know that window displays are such an important part of that initial first impression for most clients and that's why we ensure they are regularly updated and always visually striking. Watch out for the window balloons and come in to join the party!

Over in Bristol: Wylde wedding day visit!
We love being a part of a couples’ perfect day by creating wedding rings as special as the occasion itself - but sometimes, we’re even more involved than that!

Such was the case for clients Ian & Jane who were so happy with the wedding bands we created; they visited our Clifton store on the actual day of the wedding to thank our dedicated staff there.

Jane said: “I love my wedding ring!! It is perfect. Popping into see you on our wedding day was just our way to say thank you for the wonderful journey we have had from our initial discussions in May 2016, to me seeing the actual ring for the first time when Ian put it on my finger during the wedding ceremony.
A diamond three band half set eternity ring consisting of a central plain platinum band and to either side a half row of diamonds in claw settings.
You have been so much fun to work with throughout the whole process as well as offering good advice and being mindful of our budget to create the perfect wedding ring for me. You have been extremely kind and patient and I would highly recommend Nicholas Wylde to anyone who is looking for that truly special purchase.”

The happy couple is pictured with Bristol assistant manager Shetal who organised a special flower bouquet for the newly- weds.

Old to New: ‘All my hopes realised’
The original rings along with the design sheet for the reimagined transformation
With all the memories invested in past jewellery and the important people in our lives they often remind us of , it’s a delight to incorporate them into a modern piece of jewellery that allow the memories to shine on.

Taking sentimentally loved old items of jewellery and transforming them into something new and exciting is just one thing that Nicholas and his highly-skilled team love doing. With our onsite workshops, we can create virtually anything from imagination, using new elements and treasures from the past.

This was the case for a commission from our Bath store where our client Sally wanted to refashion engagement and wedding rings into something totally new.

Sally commented: “I am thrilled with the result! It is a particularly special piece as I was able to realise all my hopes around incorporating elements from my original wedding and engagement rings and also my grandmother’s engagement ring.

I also am so pleased that the 9ct gold running along from the two large diamonds mirrors exactly the shape of my mother’s engagement ring.

Digby, my husband, added the small diamonds to represent the eternity element of this ring - it celebrates for us 30 years of marriage!”

If you have a collection of worn but well-loved items of jewellery, here at Nicholas Wylde we specialise in breathing new life into your sentimental past, to create a brand-new piece of jewellery for today and the future.

Jewellery News: Fragment of prize gem sells for millions
Lesedi la Rona is the largest diamond discovered in more than a century, and the second-biggest ever found. (Images courtesy of Sotheby’s)

Canada’s Lucara Diamond, the company that hit the jackpot in 2015 after finding the world’s second-largest diamond, just got $17.5 million for a piece that broke from that rock, the now historic three-billion-year- old 1,109 ct ‘Lesedi La Rona’ – which means ‘our light’ in the Tsawna language spoken in Botswana.

The fragment was sold during the Vancouver-based miner’s $54.8 million recent tender to luxury jeweller Graff Diamonds, and was one of 15 large and high value rocks offered by the company.

Imagine how many Wylde Flower Diamond(r)s we could create from this mighty hunk of gemstone!
Star of the Month: Stunning ring that moves, revealing a rainbow of colour!

This fabulous and highly distinct dress ring is our well-deserved ‘Star’ for the month of July.

A diamond, ruby and blue, yellow and pink sapphire multi-stone dress ring, consisting of a principal solitaire diamond in an 18ct white gold claw setting, central set into an 18ct white gold textured ball surrounded with three diamonds in flush settings, with a middle circular row of sapphires and rubies in white gold grain settings. Mounted on a 18ct yellow gold wide shank with ebony shoulders with four diamonds in 18ct white gold rubover settings. Its total weight is 25.9 grams.

Peter, one of our talented and highly-skilled goldsmiths from our on-site workshops, designed and handmade this exquisite piece, originally to be entered into the National Goldsmith Awards.

Although it didn’t emerge as the winner, this stunning ring demonstrates the creativity and technical skills that Nicholas and his team can achieve.

The uniqueness of the piece is not only in its appearance but in the clever design that incorporates movement – the central ball can be clicked around, revealing different gemstone colours.

Our July ‘Star of the Month’ is currently proudly on display in our Bath shop window.

Contact our Bath shop on 01225 462826 if you’d like to give our ‘Star’ a new loving home and for more details view on our website:

Spirit of Independence: Support your local traders and high street!
Independent Retailer Month is a campaign that runs annually throughout July to highlight the important role smaller, local, independent retailers play in the communities they serve, the local economy they contribute to, and in the retail sector as a whole.

Buying from local, independent businesses -  be they shops, cafes, salons, restaurants, market traders or whatever  - means we are each doing 'our bit' to keep our high street, town or village centre 'open for business'. It is genuinely a case of 'use it or lose it'.

Nicholas said: "It's so important to support the local retailer – for unique products, better service and an all-round more positive experience. Bath is a city famous for its uniqueness, including its many indie shops. I believe that Bath is not only for tourists but also for the local community within a 20 mile radius who want to enjoy a lovely day out and spend time browsing around the indie shops and cafes.

You’ll receive personal attention with a better atmosphere in indie shops than the often impersonal service offered by some chain stores where the shopper is little more than a volume number.
You can also support indie retailers by shopping local online and seeking out indie traders rather than the corporate giants like Amazon. Our easy-to-use website makes shopping from home a pleasure and you’re guaranteed the same quality 1-1 experience and after-sales service that we offer in store. We strive to make sure that all purchases made at Nicholas Wylde are as happy and memorable as the occasion it’s bought for. And remember also, independent retailers pay their fair taxes, unlike some of the bigger retail corporations online and on the high street"

So fly the flags of independence this July and keep your high streets alive and thriving!
July birthstone: Ruby – ‘King of Gems’
Left: 18ct white & yellow gold, Classic Colour Collection, ruby 0.77ct & diamond 0.53ct VS G/H three stone ring.

Middle: 18ct white and yellow gold, Solo Collection, ruby marquise smaller earrings, each featuring a two colour gold marquise design with a single ruby in a rubover setting.

Right: 18ct yellow gold, Classic Colour Collection, ruby 0.47ct & diamond 0.07ct VS G/H three stone ring. All pieces are exclusive to Nicholas Wylde.

For those of you born in the summer month of July, ruby is your birthstone, known as the 'king of gems'.

Ruby is the name given to red gem-quality corundum. All corundum that is not red is called sapphire. Corundum is the second hardest gemstone after diamond, although it is only 1/140th as hard and scratches and chips can occur.

Ruby is one of the most popular gemstones for use in jewellery and can be any shade of red, from pinkish or purplish to brownish. The most desirable colour is "pigeon’s blood" – pure red with a hint of blue. Ruby is one of the most expensive gems, large rubies being rarer than comparable diamonds

Find out more about all precious gems in our ‘Wylde Guide to Gemstones’.
