Top Story: Triumphant Wylde Win at the first Bristol Life Awards!
The very first Bristol Life Awards took place on April 27, held in a massive; uberglam marquee in Lloyds Amphitheatre in Bristol, gathering together some of the best business and creative minds the city has to offer – all hoping for that grand accolade at the awards ceremony.

We were proud as punch to receive an award in the Retailer Category, recognising the achievements of our Clifton shop and the dedicated work of all our staff there who have worked tirelessly in the six years the store has been open, to ensure the ‘Wylde Effect’ flourishes and becomes an integral part of the vibrant city of Bristol.

Nicholas gratefully accepted the award, along with Bristol shop manager, Brano and assistant manager Shetal, commenting that it was a ‘fantastic tribute in this our 30th anniversary year’ and promising that ‘the best is still to come’.

Nicholas thanks his hard working team Brano, Shetal, Janet, Lynne and Giovanna for providing an excellent service and building over the last 7 years an excellent reputation.

Our thanks to Bristol Life magazine for organising the awards and our hearty congratulations to all the other winners in what proved to be a real gem of a night for all involved!

Over in Bath: Laser machine adds to workshop capability...
It looks a little like a Star Wars droid character but this new piece of equipment that’s recently landed in our Bath workshop is the very latest in tabletop laser welding machines.

Our motto has always been ‘If we can’t repair it, no-one can’ and this technology furthers this statement by enabling us to perform repair work on the most difficult jobs that other jewellers would struggle with.

The Neutec Studio Plus is a small but very powerful laser capable of welding precious and non-precious metals together without relying on conventional methods of torch heat, which can sometimes cause damage from over-heating or necessitate the removal of gems to perform the repair.

The laser can weld around gemstones and also do repairs on silver, which is the most difficult precious metal to weld due to its high reflectivity but this machine makes it easy.

The laser is designed for all jewellery making and repair work, including re-tipping, re-sizing, prong repairs, chain repairs plus many other tricky jobs.

Another example of the cutting-edge innovations we’re regularly introducing to ensure our jewellery and services are second to none.

Over in Bristol: Finding the perfect match
We so love being part of the special day for many of our clients, providing wedding rings that will be cherished a lifetime.

When couples find their perfect match in love and life, it’s important to also match up engagement and wedding rings so that the two combine and compliment perfectly.

Such was the story for Naomi and Martin who came into our Clifton store requesting engraved wedding rings made and, for the bride, a ring to fit snugly with her existing ruby & diamond cross-over three stone engagement ring.

The happy couple commented:

“Our experience with Nicholas Wylde was exceptional. We had the immediate sense we were in the hands of expert jewellers who held standards of excellence in craftsmanship and customer care. They made us feel like Royalty whilst being as friendly and warm as old friends reunited. The wine and coffee were additional treats.

We felt the whole experience was really special, personalised to suit each customer’s hopes and wishes with questions clarified and expertise shared. My ring is made to fit the engagement ring and I love it so much. We have no hesitation to go back to Nicholas Wylde in the future with any other jewellery we may hope to purchase, have valued or
have personally made for us. Thank you team so much!”

We wish them all the very best for a happy future together!

Jewellery News: Record price paid in auction as pink diamond dazzles
A 'Pink Star' diamond sold for a new world record of $71.2m at a Sotheby's auction in Hong Kong last month, becoming the largest price ever paid for a jewel at auction.

Described as 'one of the world's great national treasures', the 59.6 carat gemstone is the largest internally flawless, fancy vivid pink diamond ever graded by the Gemological Institute of America. The stone’s exquisite pear shape and brilliant cut accentuate its exceptional saturation, placing it in a rarefied category even among the world’s most beautiful diamonds.

Also coming up in Sotheby’s spring sale of Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels at Mandarin Oriental, Geneva in May are the ‘Apollo and Artemis Diamonds’.
Individually, these captivating diamonds – one Fancy Vivid Blue, one Fancy Intense Pink – are truly exceptional stones and when considered as a pair, they enter a class of their own: the most important earrings ever to appear at auction. Offered separately as individual lots, ‘The Apollo Blue’ will be presented with an estimate of $38,000,000–50,000,000 and ‘The Artemis Pink’ is estimated between $12,500,000–18,000,000.

If this news makes you aware of the beauty of pink diamonds and you don’t have the spare few million to hand, we can offer you alternatives here at Nicholas Wylde.

In our Bristol shop: 18ct white gold, brilliant cut round pink diamond weighing 0.10ct, assessed as clarity VS, colour natural. Call 0117 974 3582 for more details.
Star of the Month: 1920s brooch receives 21st Century Wylde makeover!
This stunning 18ct white gold, diamond and black mabe pearl pendant is our first ‘Star of the Month’ and is currently proudly on display in our Bath shop window.

It has a mixture of marquise, pear and baguette cut diamonds, weighing 6.0ct in total and assessed as clarity VS, colour G/H. Total weight is 16.6 grams.

Originally a vintage brooch from the 1920s, Nicholas cleverly included a central half mabe pearl and refashioned the piece as a pendant.  As brooches are not commonly worn these days, Nicholas is often asked to undertake such ‘restoration’ work.

This fabulous piece of retro/modern jewellery would dazzle when worn for any special occasion and  is our well-deserved ‘Star of the Month’ for May.

Contact our Bath shop on 01225 462826 if you’d like to give our ‘Star’ a new loving home and for  more details view on our website.

For those born in the month of May, emerald is your birthstone, a symbol of rebirth believed to grant the owner foresight, good fortune and youth.

Emerald is the grass-green variety of the mineral beryl, its beautifully cool green colour deriving from the presence of chromium and vanadium and found in granites, pegmatites and schists.

The ‘Emerald Cut’ is a step cut which is used for many gemstones, removing the corners while reducing the risk of damage during setting as emerald is a brittle stone, formed from a hexagonal crystal structure.

Most emeralds used in historical jewellery can have their origins traced back to Cleopatra’s mines in ancient Egypt around 1300 BC, when the gem was revered as a symbol of fertility and life. They were the first recorded example of sunglasses, as Emperor Nero wore flat emerald crystals to watch the gladiator games in the Italian sunshine.

Emeralds symbolize immortality and faith and are associated with the heart chakra, promoting loyalty and sensitivity in couples.

Find out more about all precious gems in our ‘Wylde Guide to Gemstones’.
