On Christmas Eve, one lucky customer received a special notification from us revealing that they would be in for a very Wylde Christmas indeed!

They must have been especially good over the previous year as they were selected the winner of our festive competition and became the lucky owner of a diamond-encrusted Snowflake pendant, valued at £1,000! Congratulations to Angela Treslove

Our festive ‘Dazzle’ collection proved very popular over the season and was one of the highlight features of our newly-launched website, but all the pieces in the collection can be bought throughout the year and not just for Christmas!

There will be lots more Wylde competitions over the coming year so stay tuned and Lady Luck could smile on you in 2016.

Our new future-facing website was launched with great success just before Christmas and its many enhanced features, including ‘Click & Collect’, allowed lots of customers to browse our entire ranges from the comfort of their own home and select the item that was perfect for them or a loved one.

Internet shopping is the fastest growing sector for retail and this trend looks set to continue long into the future. That’s why our new website was designed and created to accommodate this but also to bring the same quality of service and choice of beautiful jewellery that you would find in our stores.

Michael Aldrich invented online shopping in the UK. In 1979 he connected a modified domestic television via a telephone line to a real-time multi-user transaction processing computer. In 1990, Tim Berners-Lee created the World Wide Web and the first browser. Later, more online developments started to take place when in 1994; Netscape launched its first commercial browser by the name “Navigator”. In 1995, Amazon and eBay launched their online portals – a step forward in e-commerce.

Online shopping or e-commerce is now a multi billion pound industry and is expected to grow by over 23% globally in 2016.

In the present world, it has been estimated that more than 80% of all internet users have used online portals to purchase something. Also, online shopping has been carried out more than once by about 50% of all online shoppers. In 2013, retail e-commerce sales amounted to 2.59 billion pounds and are projected to grow to a staggering 9.18 billion pounds by 2017.

With this virtual marketplace becoming increasingly crowded with sellers, it’s so important to buy from people you can trust.

This is why we are investing in our on line service so you can now easily buy from Nicholas Wylde where you can trust the product, service and have the knowledge that we will look after you now and in the future.

Nicholas was delighted to design and make this fabulous pendant over the festive period. With its sinuous and tactile design it exquisitely captures and shows off the Wylde Flower Diamond® perfectly.

The brief was to design a pendant that could be worn throughout the day and which would also look fantastic when wearing for a special occasion.

The client chose a design that Nicholas also believed would work best and it truly is stunning and looks fabulous. Nicholas welcomes Mrs Maclagan into the Wylde Flower family; he also looks forward to welcoming future clients who appreciate the beauty of this amazing diamond.

title ico January’s birthstone: Garnet

"Her who in January was born
No gem save garnets shall be worn
They will ensure her constancy
True friendship and fidelity."

For those born in the first month of the year, garnet is your birthstone.

The name “garnet” is derived from the Latin “granatum” meaning “pomegranate” because the crystals resemble the red colour and seed-like form of this fruit. In fact, garnets come in all kinds of colours such as black, many shades of green and they can even be colourless. This variation in colour comes from metals such as manganese, iron, calcium, and aluminium. Green garnets are most highly prized as they are very rare, as are the colourless stones.

Garnets are commonly found as small pebbles in streams, where the igneous and metamorphic rocks that contain them have weathered away. They’re found in many places around the world, including North and South America, Australia, India, Asia and Spain.

Ancient warriors believed that garnets brought victory. The Crusaders used them as protection against wounds and accidents during their journeys.

In contrast, Asiatic warriors believed that glowing garnets, used as bullets, inflicted more severe wounds.  As with many precious stones, garnets were once believed to hold medicinal powers.  In Medieval times, it protected its wearer against poisons, wounds and bad dreams, and cured depression. Red garnets relieved fever, haemorrhages and inflammatory diseases.

In modern times, the garnet symbolizes a light heart, loyalty and enduring affection – all great qualities to have and take into a brand new year.
