We’ve reached our fifth anniversary in Bristol and to celebrate this fantastic achievement we are giving away five beautiful diamonds, each worth £500.

Luxurious handmade chocolates and champagne are being served to all our clients too during the month of June.

To be in with a chance of winning one of these beautiful diamonds, customers who spend £100 or above between 1st and 26th June will have their names entered into our special draw.  Five lucky names will be pulled out of a hat on the evening on the 26th June by Nicholas himself.

We do hope to see as many of our clients visiting us during our celebrations in June and wish you all good luck!

A great aspect of being in the jewellery business and particularly working at Nicholas Wylde is that we have opportunities to sit down with clients to hear their stories and experiences of special moments – such as popping the question, the wedding day and many other special occasions too.

Recently Adrian decided to propose to Emma with a beautiful diamond instead of selecting a ring. Although he had commissioned a design with Nicholas, approval was needed by Emma before we set about creating this special engagement ring.

Nicholas says “It is a very brave man who designs and chooses an engagement ring on his own; having the confidence in knowing the style of ring a partner might like is daunting to so many. Adrian has chosen a lovely romantic way of surprising his partner Emma by giving her a diamond specially gift wrapped and also planning a date with me to discuss a very special style of ring. It’s such a special moment that both can enjoy which takes in personal thoughts on design;  although I think Emma knew exactly what she wanted.”

Emma was delighted with the diamond and now she is wearing the specially commissioned ring. She shares her wonderful story of romance with us, and writes:

“Adrian and I had been together for just over two years when he surprised me and took me to beautiful Biarritz in the South of France. Adrian has always been very thoughtful and is brilliant at organising surprises, so never once did I think that he was going to propose! We checked into the most beautiful suite overlooking the ocean, he then insisted that we explore the sea front & the old town of Biarritz.

Adrian is very traditional, he got down on one knee, overlooking the ocean with the city of Biarritz behind us, he asked for my hand in marriage and presented me with a clear box saying 'marry me?' with a single diamond. The feeling of being given a diamond, a promise of love & partnership for life is just an indescribable feeling.  Having told the story a million times to friends, family and anyone else who will listen, they have all said the same thing which is how special that Adrian presented me with the diamond only when he proposed, leaving me to bespoke design the rest of the ring. Adrian and Nicholas Wylde had already designed the ring based on what Adrian thought I would want and it was just perfect, I didn't want a thing changed but it was so thoughtful of him to let me have the final say.

A week later and the ring is on my finger, I am honoured and privileged to wear it for the rest of my life, a constant (rather sparkly) reminder of our story to date, a promise of love, friendship and much much more.

I am forever grateful to Nicholas Wylde and his superb team for helping Adrian make my dreams come true.“

title ico Summer’s arrived Corrinda style!

Nicholas’ sister, Corrinda is our window designer and she has created a perfectly inspired shop window which gives the “Wow” factor. The brief from Nicholas was to come up with something bright and colourful for the summer ahead. We all know how important our window presentation is to the business as it gives the first impression. First impressions last and this is so important even if you have been in business for nearly thirty years. Window displays, website or by phone can be the first contact with us and we want to make sure we build on our excellent reputation at all times.

Nicholas has received awards for his window displays in the past and he definitely intends to enter this summer display. Nicholas knows his talented sister is great at coming up with fresh and eye catching ideas and also knows Nicholas’ design styles.

Corrinda adds “As I have my own florist business, I do enjoy incorporating floral themes into the windows and hopefully this demonstrates how creative and unique you can be with flowers.”

title ico Under the Loupe – June’s Birthstones

“Who comes with summer to this earth,

And owes to June her hour of birth,

With ring of agate on her hand
Can health, wealth, and long life command.”

The June birthstone is Pearl. A gem of unsurpassed beauty and elegance. When an irritant, such as a small parasite or a fish lodges in the flesh of an oyster, mussel, or clam, a protective substance called "nacre" is produced. Over years, layer upon layer of shimmering nacre coats the intruder, creating a lustrous pearl. Natural pearls are relatively rare, so a process evolved in which a piece of shell or bead was placed inside a mollusc to stimulate the production of nacre. This results in a cultured pearl, which accounts for about 90 per cent of the pearl industry.  Divers find natural pearls in The Persian Gulf as well as in the waters off Japan, the South Pacific Islands off northern Australia, and the coasts of Panama, Venezuela, and California. Most of the cultured pearl industry is in Japanese and Australian coastal waters. These gems come in a variety of colours, from pure white to pink, yellow, gray and black. They also come in different shapes and sizes.

There are two alternate birthstones for June. The first is Moonstone, a type of feldspar named because of its uncanny resemblance to the iridescent sheen of the moon. Varying in colour from clear to blue-white or peach.

The second is the Alexandrite, a yellowish or brownish green in colour, this gemstone has the unique characteristic of changing colour to a red hue when exposed to a glowing light source, such as candlelight.
