We can deal sympathetically with any claim for insurance and have many years experience of jewellery replacement under insurance. Working from photographs or just a description, a member of our trained staff can sketch the missing jewellery for you and we will hand-make a replacement as close to the original design as possible. Alternatively, you can use the money you receive from your insurance to purchase or commission a piece of jewellery that you have may always wanted.
CLEANING
We offer a quick and professional cleaning service for all types of jewellery, and can advise on the care of gemstones and metals. The cleaning service can be carried out same-day and we will advise on your collection time when you bring your item(s) in to us.

Our polishing motor can buff pieces to an “as-new” shine, and our ultrasonic machine uses a combination of heat and vibration to remove dirt from settings. We use a strong steam cleaner on certain items, leaving all jewellery looking beautiful and stones sparkling.

We offer a free cleaning service for life on any item purchased from ourselves, meaning that you can pop in any time you are passing or before a big occasion to make sure that your jewellery is looking its best.

We sell a range of cleaning products which can be used at home to maintain the sparkle of your jewellery, and can advise on the best product for your needs.

RHODIUM PLATING & GOLD PLATING
Most 18ct or 9ct white gold items are rhodium plated. Rhodium is a very white metal that looks like platinum and serves to cover the more yellowish white gold that lies underneath. This plating can wear off very quickly in areas that are prone to rubbing, like the back of the shank or tops of the claws.

The process to electroplate your item and restore the rhodium coating is quite easy, but your item of jewellery may also need a clean and polish as well. This can all be done as a same-day service.

Yellow/red gold plating, or black rhodium plating, would require us sending off for an exact quote from our specialist, but we can give a guide in store.

ENGRAVING

We offer a comprehensive engraving service, using one of the country’s foremost hand engravers, who can engrave anything from simple initials on the inside of a wedding band to a complex deep seal engraving of a family crest on a signet ring. A wide variety of styles are available, with a minimum charge of just £70 (up to 10 characters, with £8 charged for each additional character.)

A no obligation quote can be given for any engraving requirement – simply bring the item into the shop and a member of staff will advise you.

We are happy to engrave on items that are not brought from us, and there may also be a charge to pre-polish the item before engraving

Our basic engraving service usually takes around 10 days, but we could arrange a faster service for an extra charge. A more specialist service such as a deep seal engraving may take up to 12 weeks.

ENAMELLING
Enamelling is a wonderful way of bringing incredible colour to a piece of jewellery. It is sadly becoming a dying trade with only a few experts around. Wylde Jewellers uses one of the best skilled craftspeople in the country to carry out this work, which helps to ensure that we create commissions and repairs which have dramatic effect and stunning results.

We can use a traditional hard enameler, or a cold enamel where heat cannot be used. We can give you a guide on costs, but would need to send your item away to get an accurate quote. This service may take around 3 weeks.

SPECIALIST JEWELLERY INSURANCE
SPECIALIST JEWELLERY INSURANCE
For other items not purchased from us, we would recommend a company called T H March & Co Ltd, who can offer advice on which insurance best suits you. You can contact them on 01822 855555 (please quote our reference AW086T) or via their WEBSITE.
INSURANCE QUOTATIONS
We are able to provide a replacement quotation for an item of jewellery that is lost or stolen. Our service enables you to describe the exact details of the missing jewellery to an experienced member of staff, carefully noting any particular details (any photo with the jewellery being worn will also help). We can provide an accurate quotation for replacement of any item before an insurance company tries to offer you a lower settlement figure.

Quotations are free of charge, for any item purchased from us. For items not purchased from us, we charge £55 for a single item and each additional item at £25. The fee is refundable if you decide to spend the whole claim value with us.

ADVICE FOR INSURANCE CLAIMS
We can deal sympathetically with any claim for insurance and have many years experience of jewellery replacement under insurance. Working from photographs or just a description, a member of our trained staff can sketch the missing jewellery for you and we will hand-make a replacement as close to the original design as possible. Alternatively, you can use the money you receive from your insurance to purchase or commission a piece of jewellery that you have may always wanted.
VALUATIONS
VALUATIONS
At Wylde Jewellers we provide our customers with the best service available locally, to provide valuations for both insurance and probate. We ensure precious jewellery is professionally assessed and documented.
VALUATIONS FOR INSURANCE
Many people do not have their jewellery adequately insured, particularly if they have been given or inherited an item. Many insurance policies state a maximum single item limit for valuables such as jewellery, and we find that people often own and wear items with a value well exceeding these limits.

We use a local independent valuation organisation who are NAG registered. They have twenty years of specialised experience in the jewellery business.

All jewellery valued can be professionally cleaned and polished in our workshop. Our valuations provide all the information (dimensions of stones, grades, weights, hallmarks etc.) required by a post-loss assessor, and include a detailed photograph to illustrate and aid the provided description.

For any item over £2,500 purchased through Wylde Jewellers, you will receive your first valuation free of charge (excluding second hand sales). This valuation can be updated every three years at 25% discount off the normal charge.

STANDARD 10-DAY VALUATION SERVICE
– One jewellery/silver item schedule costs £80 (Watch valuation £140 per Item)

– Additional jewellery/silver items costs £65 (per item)

You are advised to provide any old valuations or receipts with your jewellery when you bring it to us.

You will be emailed a copy of your valuation prior to your collection of the item(s).

If you require a valuation with a faster turnaround, please contact us as we may be able to arrange a quicker service at a special rate.

It is advisable to have your jewellery re-valued every three years, as its value may fluctuate, and be higher than the existing figure it is insured for. Any jewellery you have purchased from us will be re-valued at 25% discount on providing a copy of the last valuation. All other valuations will be charged at our normal fee.

If you do not have any insurance, or find that your jewellery is underinsured but do not want to change your home contents policy, we can send you an application form and details where you can obtain a competitive quote.

VALUATIONS FOR PROBATE
A probate valuation values items belonging to a deceased person for the estate of that person. During a probate valuation, items are valued at their lowest resale value – i.e. what you could expect to be paid if you took the items into a jewellers and asked them to purchase the items from you, or sold them at an auction.

PROBATE VALUATION CHARGES:

– Minimum charge £210 (including up to six items)

– Additional items cost £35 per item

To book an appointment please phone us on 01225 462826 or email info@nicholaswylde.com.

Come into the store for a no-obligation quote, simply bring the item into the shop and a member of our team will be happy to advise you on any jewellery requirement.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is your usual timescale for carrying out repairs

Basic ring sizing and chain repairs usually take one week. Any slightly more difficult repairs usually take two weeks, and any repair that requires sourcing a stone may take three weeks or more.
Our staff are trained to ask when would you like to collect the repair and endeavour to confirm a collection date with you, within the boundaries of the type of repair.

Can you offer same day repairs
Same-day repairs can usually be undertaken, although there is an extra charge for the service. Examples of repairs which can usually be carried out on the same day are ring sizing, chain repairs, cleaning and polishing – however, please feel free to ask our staff about any other potential same-day repair. Same-day repairs can be brought in between 10.15am and 4pm. We would recommend pre-arranging an appointment to guarantee this service.

Our charges are as follows, and are in addition to the cost of the repair:

1 hour Service – £40
3 hour Service – £25

Do you offer a guarantee for your repair work

We offer a 1 year guarantee on all repairs unless stated on receipt of the item.

Can you re-string a necklace for me
We do offer a re-stringing service. We recommend that you restring anything you wear on a regular basis every three years. This is due to the silk of the string becoming stretched and weak. We use one of the best stringing companies in the UK, offering a fast and reliable service of approximately 10 days, with a one year guarantee.

We can offer an urgent three-day service, but there would be an additional charge for this.

We can also quote to supply new beads or pearls if needed, and can string with pearl silk, elastic or metal wire. We can also clean the beads of pearls before they are restrung, at a small cost.

In most cases we can provide a quote to you when you bring the item to us and advise you of your likely collection date.

What about cleaning and re-plating
We offer a quick and professional service for all types of jewellery – have a look at Our Services for more information!
