Description
With its mouthwatering burst of pinks and greens, the aptly named watermelon tourmaline perfectly mimics the rind and flesh of our favourite summer fruit. The contrasting hues are often separated by a translucent sliver of pale pink or white.
How? Well, as watermelon tourmaline grows and thickens, it’s exposed to minerals like manganese or lithium. This causes the gem’s colours to shift from a pink centre through a pale zone to a green edge.
Almost all watermelon tourmaline stones have inclusions, and this has become something of a mark of authenticity; a stone without natural inclusions – or with a harsh division of colours – is likely to be a fake one.
Our fabulously fruity emerald-cut stone weighs a juicy 1.29ct, and is surrounded by a halo of diamonds weighing 0.17ct in total, all set onto a gleaming 18ct white gold band.
