A word from the designer:

“When tasked with finding a yellow stone at the Munich show, the very first one I saw was this stunning 7ct navette-cut yellow yellow beryl, and I fell in love with its unique geometric cutting style. Having searched the show high and low for a stone that could beat this, I found myself returning on the final day to buy this very one!

Our task was to create a “diva” piece, and I found out that the word diva derives from the latin for ‘goddess’.

With our flagship store and my home being in Bath, with its famous Roman waters, I was inspired to research Roman goddesses, and came across Minerva, the goddess of wisdom, arts and war. Minerva also has strong links with the city of Bath and its thermal hot springs. After discovering Minerva was always pictured with a spear and shield, I realised my stone closely resembled the shape of a spearhead, and I started to create my design around this. Using the large surrounding circle to represent a shield, I intersected this shape with gently flowing lines, as a nod to the Roman waters – with the scattered diamonds represented the sparkles on the surface.

As the stone is large and deep, I felt that it was too heavy and prominent to sit on one finger, and so designed a double finger ring! I wear these frequently myself and had spotted their popularity at the Munich show. With the centre of the stone sitting in the concave dish, which slightly dips down in between the two fingers upon which the ring is being worn, it was set in a way that is comfortable to wear and protects the beautiful yellow beryl from accidental damage. The stone is surrounded by yello gold, like the rest of the ring, but with a brushed finish – offering a distinction between the “spear” and the “shield”.

I am delighted with the final piece – having never tried designing jewellery before, it is a process that I fell in love with, and hope to have the chance to do again!” – Carly Cooke

Ring size & Engraving

Choosing the correct ring size

Choosing the correct ring size is very important. If your ring does not fit properly it is like wearing the wrong size shoes: uncomfortable and increases the chance of you losing your ring.

At Wylde Jewellers, we train all of our staff to recommend the best fit for the style of ring. The best fit can depend on so many factors, including if you prefer a tight or loose fit. As your finger can alter in size over several weeks, we would recommend wearing it for that long to see if the average comfort is good. Read more ...
